Snow Globe Craft

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

Have you ever seen a snowglobe and been curious about how to make one? Here is your chance to create your own personal snow globe out of household items and craft materials!

School-aged children, 5 to 12, will love making their own snow globe! Those who take part in this activity will be able to use their creativity and logical reasoning to produce a fun arts and craft that they can then use as a decoration for the winter season.

Materials:

Plastic or glass bottle (a short cylindrical shaped bottle is what I used, you could even use an old glass jar!)

A small cup of water

2 Colors of Washable Markers (I chose orange and black)

3 Small White Foam Balls

Beads, Sparkles, or any other little objects that you would like to include in your snow globe

Super Glue **Warning: Please use super glue with adult supervision**

Activity Steps:

Prior to beginning your activity be sure to, gather all of your materials and create the craft on a flat surface. Make sure that there is an adult present to help with pouring water as needed and placing super glue on the lid of the snowglobe.

Let’s begin!

Step 1:

Build Your Snowman!

First, we will create the snowman.

We will start by taking one of the white foam balls and placing two dots of glue on top. Only a couple of dots is needed as super glue is very sticky. Please ask an adult for assistance as needed.

Step 2: Next, take a second foam ball and stack it on top of the glue dots of the first foam ball, holding down for ten seconds to make sure that the two balls are really glued to one another.

Step 3: Once the two foam balls are stuck to one another and the glue is dry, take the third white foam ball and repeat step 1, placing two glue dots on the ball.

Step 4: Stack the two glued balls on top of the glue spots on the third ball, holding again for ten seconds to make sure that all three are stuck to one another.

You can now set your snowman off to the side and let him dry for a couple of minutes.

Step 5: Next, choose your color to make the snowman face. I chose black, but you can choose any color that you would like! Then, decide which end of the snowman you would like to be the head. When you have decided on the snowman head, draw two dots for the eyes. You can make them as big or small as you would like, but make sure to keep some room for the nose and mouth :)

Step 6: Now, we will draw the mouth. For this, think of a cresent moon shape, two curved lines that meet at the tips.

Step 7: Lastly, make your snowman nose. Think of a triangle with the top tip pointing to the right to create a carrot shape.

Great job finishing your snowman!

Step 8: Now that we have made the snowman, we will create the snowman’s wintery home.

First, screw off the lid of the bottle and place it to the side.

Step 9: Next, place two dots of glue on the bottom of the snowman. Just two dots are needed. Remember to ask for assistance from an adult as needed.

Step 10: Now, take your snowman and place it at the bottom of the bottle, bottom first. Push gently down and hold for ten seconds to make sure that the snowman is really sticking to the bottle. To be sure he is sticking, you can let go after ten seconds and see if he tips over or stands still. Once he stands still on his own, the glue is dry and you are ready for your next step!

Step 11: Next, we will adds the sparkles or beads. Choose a handful of beads or sparkles of your choice. Scoop them up into your hand and then sprinkle them into the bottle, as if you are dusting the sparkles over the snowman.

Step 12: Next, we will add the water. Take the glass of water and pour some into the bottle until it is filled about ¾ of the way to the top. This is so that the snowman is completely submerged in water but the bottle is not completely filled so that it will not overflow when you put on the lid.

Step 13: Now, take the super glue and squirt four dots around the edge of the of the top of the bottle, making sure that they are evenly spaced.

Step 14: Place the lid on the top of the bottle and screw it on, holding down for ten seconds to make sure that it is secure. Be sure that the lid is glued and securely fastened so that nothing spills!

Step 15: Shake the bottle to see your wintery wonderland!

You are done! Enjoy!

HAVE FUN AND ENJOY!
