Updated: Jun 14, 2021

Making splatter painted flowers is a simple and a little bit messy activity! Making these flowers will be a super fun activity to make to have your own collection of flowers to display! This activity is great for school age children! School age children are able to complete this activity independently by following the directions. They are able to be creative and choose what color paint they would like to use. These splatter painted flowers will look unique and very colorful! These flowers can even be placed in a small pot when you are finished making the flowers!

What you will need:
White paper
1 Pom pom
1 Green pipe cleaner
Washable paint
Toothbrush
Cup of water
Paper towel
Paper plate
Scissors
Pencil
Glue
Newspaper/aluminum foil (to cover your work area)
Let's get started:

Step 1: First you will need to gather all the materials that are needed to make the flowers. Once you have all the materials needed then you will place either newspaper or aluminum foil on a hard surface like a countertop or table. You will want to make sure the surface you will be using is completely covered so you don’t get any paint on it.

Step 2: Next, now that your work area is ready you are going to take the white piece of paper and a pencil and draw the outline of whatever kind of flower you would like. I chose to draw a five petal flower for mine. To make my five petal flower I drew five half circles and connected them together.

Step 3: Now that the outline of the flower is drawn out, you are ready to take your scissors and cut the flower shape out. You will want to cut along the lines that you have just drawn.
Step 4: Then you will pour a small amount of whichever color paint you would like to use on the paper plate. The amount of paint should be about the size of a penny. You want just enough paint so the toothbrush bristles are covered. Now you are going to place your toothbrush in the paint until every bristle is covered.

Step 5: Now you are ready to begin painting your flower. You will start by holding your toothbrush horizontally across your flower. Once your toothbrush is horizontal you can begin moving your finger or thumb across the bristles so the paint is splattering on the white flower shape. This will take you multiple times of moving your finger/thumb across the bristles. The more you move your finger/thumb across the bristles the more paint your flower will have. You can add more paint at this step if you would like.
Step 6: Next you are going to wash your hands and clean off the toothbrush so it is ready to be used in another color of paint. Place your toothbrush in a cup of water and then dry it off with a paper towel. Make sure all the paint is removed and the toothbrush is dry before you move on to the next step.
Step 7: Repeat step 4-6 for each color of paint that you choose to use for your flower.
Step 8: Now that you are all done painting you will need to let your flower dry. The paint should dry within a couple of minutes depending on the amount of paint on your flower. Then you are going to take your scissors and cut the green pipe cleaner to make a stem for your flower. The stem of your flower can be whatever size you would like.
Once you cut the pipe cleaner you are to place the pipe cleaner on the back side of your flower. Place a small piece of tape over the pipe cleaner to keep it in place.

Step 9: Lastly, you are going to place a small amount of glue on the back side of 1 pom pom. Place the pom pom in the center of your flower and glue the pom pom down.
Your flower is now finished and can be displayed around your house or even placed in a small pot!
