Exploding Snowman
Updated: Jun 26, 2021
This easy science experiment will make you even more excited for the winter, and maybe even snow! This experiment is an exploding snowman using vinegar and baking soda. This is best for kids of all ages, and best done in the shower or outside since it is a little messy! It is versatile, and kids can make it an exploding animal of their choice if they don’t want to make it into a snowman, also you only need a few materials so it’s an easy way to get rid of the boredom!

What You Will Need:
Ziploc bag (any size)
Bowl
Markers
Baking soda
Vinegar
Paper towel or tissue paper
Trash bag or towel
Measuring Cup
Measuring spoon
Directions:
Step 1: The first thing you want to do is gather all of your supplies outside or in the shower, because your snowman will actually explode!! You will need a sandwich bag, a bowl, a paper towel, markers, vinegar, baking soda, a measuring cup, and a measuring spoon. If you do this inside, you can use a towel or trash bag to cover the area you are using.
NOTE: Because you are going to make something explode, be aware that it may cause a mess!

Step 2: Next, you can decorate your plastic bag with markers to draw the snowman face!
You can make it into a snowman, a lion, a monster if you wish!

Step 3: Over a bowl, pour 3 teaspoons of baking soda on a paper towel and fold it up so nothing falls out and put it into the plastic bag.

Step 4: Next, use your measuring cup and pour 1-2 cups of vinegar into the bag and close the rest of the bag.
NOTE: The reaction of the white vinegar and the baking soda will happen fast, so make sure you close your baggie quickly to watch it expand and then explode!! Ask a parent or grown up if you need help closing your baggie
Step 5: Finally, step back and watch your snowman or animal of choice EXPLODE!!!
