DIY Bouncy Balls

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

Making your own bouncy balls is a fun activity to do anytime of the year and can be played with inside or outside! This is an ideal activity for school age children to make! School age children can work on measuring skills and following directions.Preschoolers can help make the bouncy ball with adult supervision and help. Both age groups can decide what color and size they would like the ball to be!

How high will your bouncy ball go?

What you will need:

1 tablespoon borax

½ cup warm water

2 tablespoons white glue

1 tablespoon cornstarch

Food coloring (if you would like a colored bouncy ball)

2 bowls

Rubber spatula

Spoon

Measuring spoons

Liquid measuring cup

How to make them:

Step 1:First you are going to get everything you will need to make your bouncy ball and set it down on a hard surface like your countertop or table.

Step 2: Next you are going to take a tablespoon measuring spoon and pour the borax into it one time to make 1 tablespoon. Pour 1 tablespoon of borax into 1 bowl.

Step 3:Grab your liquid measuring cup and fill it up from the sink with ½ cup of warm water. Pour the water into the bowl with the borax in. Once the borax and water are combined in your bowl you will want to use your spoon to stir the ingredients together.

Step 4:Then in a separate bowl you are going to first measure out 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and pour into the bowl. After you will take the white glue and measure out 2 tablespoons.

Step 5: Pour the glue into the bowl with the cornstarch in it. It will be helpful to use the rubber spatula to help get the glue out of the measuring spoon. You will then use your spoon to stir the cornstarch and glue together.

Step 6: Pick out what color food coloring you would like to use. Add about 2 drops of food coloring to the bowl with the cornstarch and glue mixed together.

Step 7: Next you will use the rubber spatula to combine the cornstarch and glue bowl into the water and borax bowl. After waiting about 10 seconds you are now ready to form the shape of the ball.

Step 8: Lastly place your hands in the bowl and take out some of the mixture. With your hands roll/form the mixture into a ball/circle shape. You are now ready to try and bounce the ball that you have just made!
