Dipped Oreos

Updated: Jun 14, 2021

This sweet treat allows children to work in the kitchen and create a delicious treat to share with friends and family! Because of the flexibility, this craft is open to children of all ages, but younger children might need adult assistance. Fine motor skills are used when dipping the Oreos into the melted chocolate and while decorating the Oreos with sprinkles. The end product is a cute and tasty treat!

Supplies:

-1 package of Oreos (or any other round cookie)

-4 oz. of a chocolate of your choosing

-a microwavable bowl (to melt the chocolate in)

-sprinkles of your choosing

-parchment paper (to cool the Oreos on)

Activity Steps:

Step 1: Gathering Materials

First, gather your materials and set them up in your workspace. We recommend picking a flat surface that has enough space for you to set out your materials. Also, make sure to keep the parchment paper close to the bowl of melted chocolate to prevent making a mess when transferring the dipped Oreos.

Step 2: Melting Chocolate

Next, you are going to break the chocolate into smaller pieces with your hands and place the pieces in a microwavable bowl. Keep in mind, the smaller the pieces, the easier the chocolate will melt. Heat the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds, or until it is completely melted. Be cautious when taking the bowl out of the microwave; it might be hot!

Step 3: Dipping the Oreos

Now you’re going to be dipping the Oreos! This part can be messy, so be extra careful of your surroundings. Grab an Oreo and dip it halfway into the chocolate. There should be an even coat of chocolate on the Oreo, if not, dip the Oreo again. Then, place the dipped Oreo onto the parchment paper. Remember to be careful while moving the Oreos to the drying sheet so you have less of a mess to clean up in the end!

Step 4: Adding Sprinkles

Before you dip the next Oreo, pick out which sprinkles you want to use to decorate the oreo you just dipped before the chocolate dries. Add a few pinches of sprinkles, or enough to fit your desired look, to the Oreo before the chocolate dries. You can either sprinkle one side of the Oreo, or flip it over and decorate both sides. Feel free to get creative with your decorating and mix sprinkles!

Step 5: Repeat, Dry, and Enjoy!

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you run out of Oreos or until you have a desired amount of decorated Oreos. Keep enough space in between each Oreo so that you can grab one if needed. Then leave the Oreos to dry; this shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. After the Oreos are dry, share with friends and family and enjoy your tasty treat!
